This coverlet has been woven and finished by hand on a historic loom in London. Made from soft, undyed cotton and British lambswool, the design of this coverlet is taken from a historic sample unearthed from the online archives of the Smithsonian Museum. Made traditionally from two panels stitched together by hand, this coverlet fits a standard double bed.
The repeating motifs of the coverlet have been faithfully replicated from 19th century patterns, lost to history and industrialisation, and unearthed as part of a project of 'textile archaeology', hereby exploring the role of the textile as heirloom, and these threads that connect us through time.
